Eugen-Florin Zamfirescu Exhibition
October 2nd to 25th, 2013

Toronto, ON – Inhabiting the walls of Twist Gallery next month will be the multifaceted works of artist Eugen-Florin Zamfirescu, from October 2 to October 25, 2013. Titled Whispering Civilisations, this exhibition marks the convergence of art, science and philosophy with the intention to pursue the fundamental questions of our existence. The foundation of this dynamic focus is the idea of a ‘thought experiment’ that the spectator must engage in, regarding in particular the concept of a genome of civilizations and whether the human race is equipped to decipher it.

The artist himself describes the collection eloquently:

“Along the intricate paths of history it was always primordial elements that helped Man reach farther and farther. At some point, under the hands of master craftsmen forests morphed into majestic ships. Ropes and sails harnessed the ocean’s winds. Soon after the Earth lost its flatness. The ‘Whispering Civilizations’ series uses the symbolism of ships and their endeavors as a metaphor for the various stages of civilizations. The sense of passing time that lingers between one painting and another creates a flow that expresses through seductive quintessential imagery the history of our world. The artist invites you to come along on a journey between realistic depiction and dreamy illusion. Drawing a possible map of our past provides us with the hope that we may reach a future protected from destruction.”

Eugen-Florin Zamfirescu was born in a small town in Romania and immigrated to Canada in 1997. He currently resides in Toronto and pursues his passions of the arts, philosophy and astrophysics.

The opening reception will be held on October 3, 2013 from 6.30pm to 9.30pm.
